But above all, the world needs dreamers who do.” — Sarah Ban Breathnach This course is focused on innovation in practice, deepening creativity even (especially!) for people who think they are not creative, building prototypes, failing and trying again.

Companies are increasingly looking for employees with training in Design Thinking and
Innovation. Firms like Procter and Gamble and GE have incorporated Design Thinking into their core strategy and marketing. 

This course will offer an immersive experience in Design Thinking as a tool for innovative idea and strategy development.

Design thinking has led to disrupted markets, enhancing brands in terms of recognition, sales, and performance. This philosophy can be applied at many levels of business such as product development, service development, business modeling, and business strategy. It is equally valuable in community settings enhancing economic revitalization, social services and education.

Throughout the course, students will work on two major challenges: one focused on product design, and one focused on service design and systems/business design. By starting with a very tangible challenge around product design, students will be able to hone their skills in the process before moving into more complex challenges around business and systems-level design.

The course will be teamwork-oriented, but students will also complete readings and independent activities that support the group work and ensure individual depth of knowledge.
