This is an art-studio course designed to incorporate and experience the rich art scene and cultural life of Prague. With the exception of Venice, Italy, no other European city has the combination of significant art history in museums, churches, palaces and public space, mixed with a vibrant contemporary art scene with its own numerous galleries and museum activity, and most importantly for this course, it can be viewed or visited within a reasonable walking distance, while AAU’s campus is uniquely placed for taking advantage of this setting.

Field trips with guided tours to galleries, exhibits and other related cultural events in the city of Prague will be an integral component of the first sessions in this course. There will be a combination of temporary and permanent exhibition visits depending on the city’s cultural program. This activity will be combined with short preparatory lectures and discussions afterwards. Students may also have opportunities to meet local artists and curators on site, as much as possible, and especially determined by the special interests of the students.

For complimentary activity to the site visits and intellectual stimulation, accordingly, as required work for the course, students will make creative works done in workshops for selective areas, including drawing, painting, photographs, or ceramics – again determined by interest of the students in the group. The first week will be devoted mostly to exploring the art world with daily site visits followed by two weeks for creative pursuits, inspired by the visits in Prague.
